DESCRIPTION:The problem of developing a website for a village hall is one that crops up from time to time. I have not built one yet\, but thought I would look at the problem and some of the issues in how to organise such a site based on the Flackwell Heath Community Centre. One of the biggest challenges as with all systems that contain data is getting the information into the site. In this case the calendar itself is largely empty. If it was full it would probably be difficult to read without going down to a resolution that shows hours. The approach I have used is to place the regular events in a table in the same way they are shown on the original site. This is easy to read. The calendar (and events view of the calendar) will only show one off events. \nIt is possible to enter all of the content on the “What’s On” page into the calendar. At the moment with no commitment on this site it is not feasible to enter it all. You may also wish to consider just blocking out those times that are already in use. There is a further complication in presenting this information as you really need two calendars\, or a three dimensional calendar time (y axis)\, day/date (x axis) and room (z axis).  It is possible to do that with this calendar. We simply add a category for room. Then you can present the view for the Sarney Room\, or the Main Hall. At the moment I have not provided different views of the rooms. \nOne final point to bear in mind. While the site can do everything you want it to. Including connecting to a payment system to book tickets for events\, it is reliant on people to maintain it. I would expect those to be volunteers. It is not difficult to maintain once it is set up. However\, if people do not maintain it\, the site will rapidly become less valuable to people than it could be. For example I have identified a method of raising money through the site by advertising events that regularly run.
