Started in the mid-70s by a small group of villagers only selling paperbacks – jigsaws were added years later.
We operate on a 4 month rota system – with approx. 1000 books and over 500 jigsaws per session.
Customers come from all throughout the area – all with stories to tell about how they do their jigsaws and what they like.
Jigsaws
There is a wide range of jigsaws from which to choose, both 500 and 1000 pieces.
We recently received a donation of a jigsaw with no picture and one of our regular customers was happy to take it and figure it out. He found pieces with the words “Flying Scotsman” so found a picture on the internet and managed to do the whole jigsaw from that – even though it was back to front. He has now given it back to us complete with picture.
Books
We also have folks asking for specific books for reading groups, or particular authors they are reading.
We have all genres with some old titles in a series which is useful if people are starting to read a new author and we now have a large selection of Classics and Non-Fiction, biogs etc.
Donations
We are happy to take donations of both paperbacks and jigsaws – we are currently in need of some 500 piece jigsaws.
Helping Out
Over the years so many folks from the village have volunteered to help in the library. There is currently a team of about eight brilliant volunteers who are extremely enthusiastic and love the books and jigsaws themselves so are happy to chat to customers about them. They do 4 or 5 sessions a year. A couple of our volunteers have been with the library for over 10 years. We are always on the lookout for more people to join our team so would be happy to hear from anyone who is interested.
The Library is co-ordinated by Alison & Jeff Harvey, who recently appeared on Wycombe Sound to talk about how it all works.

Money Raised
The money raised from the library has always gone to the Community Centre which in turn helps the village by holding many classes and groups. The money also helps towards projects such as new curtains, sound systems, decorating etc.
In the last few months we have taken well over £200 in a session – which at £1.00 per jigsaw and 50p per book is amazing.
